How to Build a Cyclekart Chassis with a CSC Chassis Kit
Building the chassis is often seen as one of the most difficult parts of starting a cyclekart project.
When building from raw steel, you normally need to measure every component, cut the rails and crossmembers, work out their positions, square the frame and somehow hold everything in place while it is welded.
The CSC Chassis Kit removes all of that work.
Every component is precision laser-cut, the edges are dressed before the kit is dispatched, and the parts are designed to slot together in their correct positions.
There is no measuring.
There is no cutting.
There is no grinding or deburring.
There is no complicated fabrication jig.
Simply slide the chassis together, fit a clamp to stop it moving and weld it.

The kit has been designed to make the chassis accessible to ordinary cyclekart builders. You do not need to be an experienced fabricator to assemble it, and the complete frame can be put together in only a few straightforward steps.
What is included in the chassis kit?
The main chassis is made from six pieces:
- One left chassis rail
- One right chassis rail
- Four numbered crossmembers
The assembly drawings identify the two rails as separate left- and right-hand components and show the position of the four numbered crossmembers.
The rails and crossmembers use a tab-and-slot arrangement. Each crossmember fits into its intended position, automatically locating the components and establishing the chassis shape.
That means there is no need to measure the crossmember positions or check the chassis diagonally for square.
No measuring. No cutting. No grinding. Just slot it together, clamp it and weld it.
What you will need
The chassis itself requires very little equipment to assemble:
- Your CSC Chassis Kit
- A suitable welder
- One clamp
- A stable work surface
- Normal welding PPE
A welding helmet, gloves, suitable clothing and enclosed footwear should always be used when welding.
Builders who are not confident welding can still assemble the complete chassis themselves and have a friend or local fabricator complete the welding.
Step 1: Identify the chassis rails
Begin by identifying the left and right chassis rails.
The two rails are different, so use the supplied drawings to confirm their orientation before fitting the crossmembers. The right rail is identified separately in the drawings, including the locations of the one-sided and double-sided cutouts.

Lay the rails beside one another in the same orientation shown in the assembly drawing.
There is no need to take any measurements. The drawings are there simply to help identify the parts and show which way they face.
Step 2: Lay out the crossmembers
The kit includes four numbered crossmembers.
Place them between the two chassis rails in the order shown on the supplied top-view drawing.
The crossmembers have been cut specifically for their individual positions. The numbered drawing makes it easy to see where each one belongs.
Step 3: Slide the chassis together
Fit each crossmember into the corresponding slots in the chassis rails.
The parts should slide together with minimal effort. No hammer, mallet or forcing is required.

Fit one side of the crossmembers into the first rail, then bring the second rail into position and slide it over the opposite ends.
The laser-cut tabs locate the crossmembers and hold them in their correct positions.
Once all four crossmembers are installed, the chassis will have taken its finished shape.
That is the complete assembly process.
Step 4: Fit the clamp
Place a clamp across the assembled chassis to hold the rails and crossmembers securely together.
The clamp is not being used to pull the chassis into shape. The chassis geometry has already been established by the interlocking parts.
Its purpose is simply to stop the assembly moving while it is being welded.
Make sure all the tabs are fully seated in their slots before tightening the clamp.
Step 5: Tack the chassis together
With the clamp fitted, place a few tack welds around the chassis to hold the components together.
You do not need to overthink the sequence. Begin by tacking the crossmembers to the rails in several locations so the assembly is securely held.
Once the chassis has been tacked together, it will remain as one complete frame.
Step 6: Complete the welding
Finish welding each crossmember to the chassis rails.
Work your way around the frame until all the required joints have been completed.
The chassis rails are made from 75 × 25 × 1.6 mm rectangular hollow section, so set the welder appropriately for the material thickness. The detailed rail drawings identify the same section size for both rails.
Allow the chassis to cool naturally once the welding is complete.
There is no need to grind the welds unless a particular mounting component later requires a flat surface.
Step 7: Your cyclekart chassis is complete
That is all there is to it.
You now have the main chassis frame ready for the next stage of your cyclekart build.
From here, you can begin fitting components such as:
- Front leaf springs and mounting brackets
- Front axle and steering
- Rear axle and bearings
- Engine mounting plates
- Brake components
- Seat and pedal supports
- Bodywork
The exact order will depend on your cyclekart design and the parts you plan to use.
Why use a CSC Chassis Kit?
The aim of the CSC Chassis Kit is not simply to supply a collection of pre-cut steel.
It is designed to remove the most time-consuming and intimidating parts of making a cyclekart chassis.
No measuring
The crossmember positions are built into the rails. There is no need to mark out the frame or calculate where each component belongs.
No cutting
The rails, tapers, slots, holes and crossmembers are all precision laser-cut before the kit is supplied.
No grinding or deburring
All edges are dressed before the chassis kit is sent to the customer.
No fabrication jig
The tab-and-slot design establishes the chassis geometry as the components are assembled.
Minimal equipment
Apart from the welding equipment, only a clamp and a suitable work surface are needed.

The chassis should not be the part of a cyclekart project that stops someone from getting started.
With the CSC kit, the difficult preparation work has already been completed. There are no complicated dimensions to reproduce and no pile of raw steel that needs to be individually measured and cut.
The process really is this simple:
- Identify the rails.
- Position the four numbered crossmembers.
- Slide the six pieces together.
- Fit the clamp.
- Weld the chassis.
Once that is done, you have a solid starting point for the rest of your cyclekart.
